I was wondering if it's too late to plant garlic in zone 8b. We live in the low mountains above Banning at near 4,000 ft elevation.
Hi there, welcome from Banning, I understand your last frost date may be March? You could still plant in February but as garlic likes a period of cold weather for the bulbs to split into cloves called vernalization you would need to give the bulbs a good period of 3 or 4 weeks of in a cold place below 40f before planting. Obviously if you are still experiencing cold wheather you will be fine, which at above 4000ft you probably are?.  Hope all goes well. We would love to see a photo of garlic when harvested.Â
