Berserk Apple Tree

I planted an apple tree with the intention of it being fan trained, by me. Started off OK, all nicely tied in etc. unfortunately due to my completely forgetting about the pruning bit, it’s grown like Topsy and is now out of hand. Can it be rescued, as in fan training? It’s a Worcester Pearmain.

A Worcester Pearmain is what's known as a partial tip bearing tree, meaning it will produce fruit mainly on the tips of the branches but also some further down the branches.  However you can prune a Worcester as you would a normal tree. Obviously you will lose the fruiting tips!  Fan trained fruit should really be 'trained' i.e. pruned and tied in during the summer, so try again next summer.  Good Luck
